Why Manchester United, and What Happened?

A 9-year-old kid, who really loves football, was watching football news in the morning before he went to school. Almost every day, the news is mostly about the team using red-white kits, from one of the cities in England, Manchester. The team led by the legendary coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, reached its peak of performance by going on to win 2 incredible Champions League titles, 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups and 1 European Cup Winners’ Cup. Those achievements made Sir Alex Ferguson become the greatest Manchester United manager ever.

Yet, the team is now adrift in the middle of the sea, hit by waves of victory and defeat. The inconsistency is sourced from complex problems, which the team hasn't found the way to fix. Several managers have taken the challenge of managing the red devil, nevertheless they have been knocked out by the devil itself. David Moyes, who was predicted to be Ferguson's successor, instead became Manchester United's worst coach. Louis van Gaal, the Dutch manager who tried his luck in the coaching chair, also failed like the previous coach. Jose Mourinho, the special one, still not enough to tame the red devil even though with a European League title. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United Legend, became the legend after his goal in the Champion League final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, still unable to lower the red devil's head. Erik Ten Hag, the next victim, sacked after 2 seasons and 2 trophies he gave to the team after years of not winning anything.

A lot of Manchester United fans were arguing which became the problems of their team. Some fans said some players are rotting in the team and should be kicked out because they are breaking the manager’s tactics. The other said that the management is the problem. There must be a major change in management to get Manchester United back on track.

For me, personally, the problem is the combination of problems fans have argued. The gaffer has the mistake, as well as the management and the players. The last gaffer, Erik Ten Hag, tends to be somewhat rigid, requiring his players to follow his tactics even though they do not have the ability to fit Ten Hag's tactics. Some players also increase the problems. Some players seem to have high egos, so the coach can't control them. The problem is too complex that it needs to be fixed, and of course, it will take a long time.

Manchester United were really heavily criticized by fans since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. Manchester United is a big team, one of the big six in the English league, with trophy achievements in the past. What can I say to the fans is that: we must be patient. The change of manager could not fix the problem rapidly. We should stick to the manager and be patient while the new manager applies his tactics to the team. Therefore, the new gaffer, which is most likely Ruben Amorim, should be supported by the management and the fans. We have to reduce the pressure on him to restore the team's glory because the team really needs big changes, which big changes also take a long time.
